Novak Djokovic Officially OUT of US Open Draw
It is now OFFICIAL, Serbian Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from this year's US Open Championships due to the CDC Guidelines on vaccinations for foreign players. There is a lot to unpack from this announcement but here is what you need to know:
Players on the tour are outspoken on the fact that the former World Number 1 took away spots for players that are able to play in the tournament
US Open is sponsored by Moderna and it seems to be a conflict of interest in the US Open lets a player who isn't vaccinated play the tournament
Twitter is on fire with discussion
We say "Twitter is on fire with discussion" because a lot of people think that Novak was selfish to leave himself on the player's lists to then pull out at the last second. If he knew he was not going to play, why even put your name down and take a spot from a well-deserving player who could make $80,000 for just making the first round of a grand slam!
The other half of the debate is, if the US has essentially gone "back to normal" after COVID-19, why would the US Open hinder itself but not let one of the greatest champions compete in the last grand slam of the year?
