Wimbledon Delivers for opening day matches-Stephens and Tiafoe Pull Upsets
Let's just talk about the fact that two Americans that have been struggling
to find their top form, pull out the two best upsets on the opening day of Wimbledon. Let's start with Sloane Stephens. In terms of holding her serve, she saved 4/5 break points she faced and converted 3/5 she had herself on her opponent's serve. And let's not forget that her adversary was none other than Petra Kvitova, the #10 seed and 2-time Wimbledon champion. That is a hard serve to break!
Next up, we have the one and only, Frances Tiafoe! An absolute flawless performance from the young American. He upsets 3 seed and Roland Garros Finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets! With a scoreline of 6-4 6-4 6-3, you would think he played the best match of his life. His first win over a Top 5 player in the world and did it against one of the best in the world right now. What made his game work today were the returns. Forcing the Greek to play a perfect ball every time Frances returned the ball deep into the court!
We cannot wait to see what other Americans will pull off big wins today! Stay tuned!
